With appropriate care, your teeth that have root canal treatment can last as long as other natural teeth. Occasionally, a tooth that has received treatment may fail to heal, or pain may continue. In this case, an endodontic retreatment may be needed.
If retreatment is needed, our doctors at Bucktown Endodontics will reopen your tooth. The old restorative materials will be removed to gain access to the root canal. They will carefully examine and clean the inside of the tooth. Once cleaned, our doctors at Bucktown Endodontics will fill and seal the canals.
Improper healing may be caused by:
- Curved or narrow canals
- Complicated or extra canals
- Saliva contaminated the inside of the tooth
- New decay exposed the canal, causing infection
- A cracked or loose filling or crown exposed the tooth to new infection
